Why heating cable
Heating cable is the most flexible underfloor heating system. By laying loops closer together or further apart we set the output per square metre: denser where more heat is needed (by glass walls, in bathrooms), wider where less is needed. That makes it ideal for irregularly shaped rooms.
Where it is used
- new builds and full floor reconstruction
- primary heating of apartments, houses and villas
- large areas: living rooms, offices, hotels
- irregular rooms and under tiles where a mat kit does not fit
How we install it
- on the cleaned concrete base we lay insulation boards and a membrane
- we fix mounting tape for the cable
- the cable is laid in loops at the calculated spacing
- the thermostat floor sensor goes into a protective conduit
- we measure resistance and insulation, then the contractor pours the screed
- once the screed has dried we connect the thermostat and commission the system
Heat storage
A thicker screed holds heat for hours, so cable in screed works well with an off-peak tariff: the floor warms up during cheaper hours and keeps releasing heat after the system switches off. To estimate running costs see Cost and running costs.
